Crime Beat

Michael Connelly began his career as a journalist, and Crime Beat is a collection of articles written over ten years as he covered various murders. As a fan of Connelly and his Harry Bosch series of novels, I got a thrill out of seeing all the little bits and pieces of real crimes that managed to find their way into his fiction, but since it’s just a grouping of old newspaper articles – I’m not sure how high the appeal is to the average reader. In reading them, it’s abundantly clear that Connelly has an eye for unique detail, and that excellent writers aren’t created overnight – they put in the work, make their bones, and are fashioned by each and every experience.
